A Tutorial by Bit of Tea and Honey
So I saw this picture in the Pottery Barn Kids catalog:
I love the way they spelled out the name Lucas in different types of letters. That "U" was calling my name! Little Brother loves cars!
And I knew that this would be a pretty fun project with the help of my Silhouette Cameo and a frame from Ikea.
First, I found a letter A font that I liked:
This is "Gil Sans Ultra Bold Condensed." My frame opening is 7.5" x 9.5", so I sized the A to fit.
Then, I opened Silhouette's "2 road - street frames". I ungrouped everything, deleting everything except the street lines and "released compound path" so that the lines could be re-configured.
Now, I regrouped the lines and moved them around to get them into place:
Voila! My "A" road. I cut that out on grey cardstock.
For the cars, I made a rounded rectangle, then gave it a little rounded rectangle wheel:
Then I duplicated the wheels, and got it looking right:
Now I pushed those wheels right up the the car body, overlapped them just a hair, and welded. Here is the left side welded:
Then I resized the car so that it would fit on the right side of the road:
Then I cut three of those out of vinyl (I used orange, blue and green to match the colors in his room). I stuck on the cars and then added white paper to the back of the A. I felt like the wood grain was distracting behind it.
I found the awesome wood-looking background paper at Paper Source. It looks a bit different now, but link here.
And my finished project:
Lots of possibilities for creativity with this one!
